The entire point of the scientific method is to start with a reasonable null hypothesis and choose a reasonable hypothesis, then prove the hypothesis is true, refuting the null. Usually the burden for proof of the hypothesis is chosen to be high on purpose strengthening the argument.

I just pulled up a YouTube video and the guy essentially said, "Of course the Iranian president was assassinated. I haven't seen any evidence the plane *wasn't* bombed."

At this moment I knew this guy was an idiot and I'll never watch a video podcast with him again.

This unfortunately doesn’t exist anymore, the scientific method. At least on the internet / media. 

The best way to summarize it is that we ended up in A Brave New World instead of 1984, which is what everyone predicted.
