I think the ‘Haitians are eating house pets’ lie is racist. Idk if it’s abstract - we don’t have any evidence it happened, there’s no obvious connection between missing pets & “ethnic minority population that lives nearby” is there ambiguity here I’m missing? This discussion does distract from policy debates. So are we meant to respond to “Haitians are eating house pets” with policy questions? Would love to hear people’s thoughts

yes, i think a perfectly reasonable and productive reaction would be: "hey, my read is that you're connecting this bad thing [pet eating] with immigration [haitian immigrants]. why don't we talk about immigration policy and dive into our respective views on it instead?" don't know why that's controversial

Yeah it’s not controversial to me! I do think repeating a made up story about Haitians eating pets is racist and I’d like to discuss Trump & JD & Harris & Walz’s policies instead. But some ppl have reacted defensively about me calling it racism, so we don’t talk policy lol

This video is of a woman from Canton (not Springfield) and she is not a Haitian immigrant. Also pled not guilty by reason of insanity.

Read through these links, could say plenty about each one but really my point is very simple and I don’t want it to get abstracted away (lol) There isn’t a single piece of evidence that “Haitian refugees in Springfield, Ohio are killing and eating house pets” It’s textbook racism imo

Ok so you’re saying that you are choosing to believe a ABC moderator that was named in Wikileaks as colluding with HRC to steal the nominated in 2016. (This is your only point of data saying this isn’t true, literally the only one) Over this entire thread of public officials and residents saying it’s happening that have been saying it’s happening for over 3 months. That’s called cognitive dissonance.

I’ve seen evidence of an entire town saying that it’s happening and a video of a women eating a cat, but she lives in the town over and they are racist so that doesn’t count and they must be completely making all of this up. Also the pictures and calls of geese being eaten are also totally made up. They all got together and said man let’s make up this story for 3 months and do new interviews just to lie. That’s called ignoring the evidence of your eyes and ears.

pretty wide range of stuff, so far I've gotten - a photo of a man holding a goose - radio logs about police investigating a report of 4 people killing wild goose - a facebook post from someone about there neighbors' daughter's friend - a video of a woman being arrested in Canton, Ohio for killing a cat. the woman is not a Haitian, though many posts claim she is - a guy claiming he watched a van getting pulled over with over 100 cats & "the Haitians" who "admitted they [were] eating them." police deny any such reports or incidents took place, no documentation - anecdotal reports of haitian refugees doing other stuff people are upset about like leaving out trash, causing car accidents, receiving welfare benefits, not speaking english, taking jobs, driving up rents - a handful of videos of individuals cooking or eating what appear to be cats, unrelated to springfield, oh - many random claims about Haitians, Haitian culture, voodoo, IQ, what they eat, how they feel about pets
