Just got done reading chapter 1 of Anxious Generation and I’m left feeling this book and the author is going to do a lot of harm to kids and parents. Going to keep reading simply because I want to understand the entirety of the author’s arguments. But Im left feeling author is creating the anxiety for his own gain. This is not to say anxiety isn’t happening amongst the age groups.

How has the book evolved? My main issue with technology and kids is that they seem to be less confident in taking actions and unsure how to deal with changes - going to a new place with only a vague idea of the direction or the vibe at the location. The place is checked out a lot and they walk with the phones in the hand, open map. - what do you do if the bus doesn't come - over-indexing on the reliability of public transport - not being able to be bored

I had to put it down for a bit. Was left with the taste that it started off with bad correlation but the ideals of reduced screen time is one I already practice. Will pick up again soon im sure. The argument I have started to focus on that I don’t think the book does a great job at is screen technology vs language technology. Currently picked up The Sovereign Child which is pretty radical too.
