Everyone cheering for Canada to become the 51st US state should know that the single uniting piece of Canadian culture is “not American”.

It might sound tongue-in-cheek but it’s deeply entwined in our history.  It’s hilarious/sad that Canadians are like this but it’s one of the only things we all agree on.

I’d bet most Canadians would take a lower standard of living than capitulate to becoming American (with the possible exception of Albertans).

Let’s keep things in perspective. Public discourse is good. Speech is free. Opinions are allowed.  

Invading or hurting others is bad. Expecting no retaliation is unrealistic. 

Actions have consequences. Accountability is part of a functioning society.
