Really interesting case study of how open source can grow/mutate/rot over time. I think more people should pay attention to it on a meta level. Lots of do's and don'ts in there. Also was one of the earlier successful hybrids of public/private wrt Automatic building a business around it.

I think of Wordpress like I think of enterprise software. It got so much adoption that it just kept working to check more boxes for a wider ranger of users and is now so bloated that it’s a bad experience.

Yeah, that’s a good analogy. I think we should study it for ways that similarly large projects can avoid the same fate … if possible.
