Since I was down a little bit of a Falklands rabbit hole today, I ended up finding this 2021 study on the warrah -- the only native land mammal to the islands known in Spanish as Las Malvinas -- a fox-like canid sometimes described as the Falklands wolf. For years, scientist were puzzled as to how the now-extinct creatures made it to the islands, and wondered if it was a land bridge. But this research suggests that the warrah may have hitched a ride with seafaring Yagán indigenous people who bred culpeo foxes as pets. https://www.sciencenews.org/article/wolf-falkland-islands-origin-ancient-human-visitors-fire-hunt
