Hot take: all New York Jews should be allowed to eat rice on Passover like the Sephardim. The first synagogue in our city — in our entire country, really — was founded by Sephardic Jews from Portugal via Brazil. Those of us in the Ashkenazi majority should claim we are honoring the roots of our community by eating rice.

One of my exes was (part) Yemeni and their passover foods were so good (I think they were more Mizrahi than Sephardic but similar). One standout I recall was a baked white fish in a very herby / spicy tomato sauce, although they didn’t make matzoh ball soup which was always a bit sad. lol
