a few months ago i had an exciting but overwhelming startup idea, and a few weeks ago i casually mentioned it to a dev i know from farcaster, and he said, “i want to build this with you.” it still feels unreal, but here we are. so i had a call today with a designer he was already working with (also from farcaster) — the first meeting just to get to know each other. i asked if they could turn on their camera, but they said no. “what’s the point of a first call if we can’t even see each other?” two minutes later, we agreed it wasn’t going to work. now, i’m curious: is it common in crypto to work with people who prefer to stay faceless? would you start a project with someone who refuses a video call? also, still looking for a designer

Sounds like good instincts on your behalf. Especially given all the recent news with clanker Id say it’s relatively common for devs to want to remain publicly faceless so they can maintain privacy. But if they’re that secretive on an intro call it’s probably a red flag

Long story short, one of the founders of clanker who goes by “proxystudio” had remained anonymous and publicly faceless, even though he had a pretty big following here on Farcaster But yesterday it was revealed that he was actually the same guy who used to go by the name “gabagool,” who had previously stolen $325k from a different project So he had basically remained anonymous on Farcaster so people wouldn’t be able to figure out that he had previously stolen money. But then someone recognized him at irl at Farcon and alerted the clanker team, and they immediately removed him from the project

Yeah it’s pretty shocking, no one really saw this coming Proxystudio has gone silent over the last few days so we still haven’t heard his side of the story. I’d like to hear what he has to say but not sure if we ever will It’s definitely him though, his old teammates confirmed it. Here’s an article with some more info about the money he stole years ago https://warpcast.com/kaloh/0x23ecb0a9

do you believe that people should have a second chance if they did a mistake once? when i see this kind of stories, i totally understand when people are calling for justice, but cancelling a person for life?….not sure…

Yeah personally I do believe people should have a second chance. As long as they truly try to change and make amends The problem here though is he hid his identity from the clanker team, so even they didn’t know. That’s part of the tragedy of this. If he had just been transparent from the beginning and admitted who he was and that he had made a mistake in the past, I think a lot of people would have forgiven him. But instead he tried to hide it, which made it impossible for the clanker team to trust him once they found out the truth I do honesty hope he is able to grow from this though and figure out a more honest and transparent path. I agree that we shouldn’t cancel him for life over this, even though he’s made multiple mistakes
