I'm genuinely curious: is the viewpoint Solana is effectively a distributed database a function of # of validators it has, or something else?

Many replicated state machines can be treated as such, and some need to live up to convenience of something like CockroachDB still; the tongue-in-cheek point was more about chain halts.
