Over a long enough time, I do believe some version of @balajis.eth 's network states does take place.

In many ways, I liken this to be a digital-native version of post-Roman empire Germanic tribes. 

Empire got too big, folks disbanded to find ppl that they vibed with, and will re-band eventually but in a diff formation.

Network states are many steps further out than a digital community.

It's an active opt-out of the country you live in, creation of a new entity that's recognized as effectively a new nation-state, etc.
