On the positive side, Geth master branch is now path-scheme by default! 🥳

It will be "released" as stable only after Cancun sails smooth, but you can run it if you want. Switching from hash mode needs a re-sync though, sry (snap works) and archive mode is still in the works.

Second Geth master teaser (or perhaps heads up this time). Geth v1.14.x will drop support for pre-merge networks. We need to do this to delete a massive amount of code from out repository.

PR 1 in, Geth v1.14.0 now requires networks to be "already" merged to run them. The network absolutely can have a pre-PoS component, but 1.14.0 and up will require a beacon chain to drive Geth.

-3000 lines of crap to maintain

PR 2 in, Geth v1.14.0 will stop creating the pending block unconditionally, and will rather only do it on demand for users relying to the functionality. Will give you some numbers a bit later.
