This is called conflict of interest. When every bot is paying you $5 a year, you are definitely not going to get rid of them. Don't blame the "consumer". Filtering out every single new user by default is just dumb. It makes it almost impossible for new users without a social circle already on FC to start out.

seems like there needs to be better sybil resistance. hard to do with an infinite namespace and flat network hierarchy.

In my opinion, these bot attacks are pretty short-sighted- if bots are all that was coming in, then people like me would leave eventually. Best case is 10 or 20% less bots? 50% less users I never see? It's not a huge priority and 500k users isn't a lot to begin with
