My big holiday read this Thanksgiving was "A Deepness in the Sky Novel" by Vernor Vinge. Loved it. It's a prequel to A Fire Upon the Deep which I also loved. Next up on my Vernor read list is the Across Realtime series & his short stories (there's another short story "The Blabber" in the same universe as ADITS).

One thing I really enjoyed about ADITS is the mixture of historical fiction & scifi. This isn't a time travel book (no more spoilers) but many time travel books do this as well e.g. a favorite "To Say Nothing of the Dog" by Connie Willis
