@kam when using electric-sql to sync a select portion of the db to the user I assume one uses PGlite on both mobile (expo) and web (e.g. nextjs or expo web?)

How does that differ from a custom persistence layer for react query

Could one use react query for synchronous queries to the PGLite?

How much data can PGLite handle?  In traffic + total on device storage

What would you say to questions around react query + API calls being faster development speed?

I lack the frontend knowledge to answer, I pitched the benefits of local first and can’t get around the above objections as I haven’t used the tech enough.

Syncing &gt; Querying.

Anywhere you query for data you should consider syncing data instead.

CDN-backed Postgres syncing means your data loads faster you get real-time updates for free.

It's like having mini PG read replicas scattered across your system.

What is fundamentally interesting about the shift from query to sync?

Both answer the question: "how do I copy data from the database?"

But sync gives you two huge advantages:

1. built-in caching so cheap distribution of data via CDNs
2. real-time updates so no stale data

I had a great discussion with Johannes on his podcast about local-first/sync engines. 

Sync engines eliminate an entire class of problems around manual data fetching. Similar to how jQuery -&gt; React freed us from manual view rendering.
