Wild stat (and enjoyable for me as a Brewers fan): The last time the Cardinals finished 2 consecutive full seasons under .500 was 1958-59; the latter was Bob Gibson’s rookie year. Sure looks like they’re gonna do it again this year.

agreed that cards will spend another year below .500. have a feeling they’ll do some selling if possible. arenado/gray/matz are all trade candidates. especially gray. they’re in a similar position the phillies/giants were in after long post-season runs and a history of being competitive. ideal to tank, but ownership unlikely full willing to do that. so they need to draft/develop well + sign key big free agents to be competitive again.

They should have sold in the offseason, can’t understand why they didn’t. Probably their pride. The Cardinal Way only takes you so far

arenado definitely tied their hands this off-season by exercising his no trade clause. retooling on the fly is just so hard to do. it’s easier to just sell the house and rebuild. takes many years of pain but it’s usually worth it (unless you’re the white sox)
