a really interesting piece on how the red sox develop hitting prospects, how they view baseball players as "elite problem solvers," and blend analytics, data, and traditional baseball techniques. prospects train in an array of environments using different technology, different types of bats, and even balls that only fly when struck on the sweet spot of a bat. the red sox are even leveraging a 30 year old study from a professor at the university of hawaii on overload and underload training to increase bat speed. in addition to all that, they're training hitters to pull the ball because this allows the bat more time to generate speed which "maximizes the capacity for damage." https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/43996721/mlb-2025-spring-training-boston-red-sox-prospects-marcelo-mayer-roman-anthony-kristian-campbell
