We’re planning to launch a new, optional “Pro” protocol subscription

1. At launch, subscribers will have a Pro badge on their profile

2. Subscription will be onchain and part of the protocol. 100% of the proceeds go to casters / developers in weekly rewards. This in addition to the existing $25K+ a week in rewards. 

3. Planning to add longer casts (10K characters) and up to 4 images per cast for pro subscribers (needs a protocol change). Additional features over time.

4. $120 a year / $10 a month 
Why are we doing this?

- The protocol needs to find long-term revenue source that can continue fund caster and developer rewards beyond any one company.  
- We originally thought storage fees could be that, but we’ve realized that storage fees should be essentialy free to help growth. 
- So we’re trying an opt-in pro subscription as another model

Why now?

- Figuring out a long-term revenue model that works will allow us to double down on investing in growth

I am fearful that my subscription fees will go to support serial builders making vaporware and that it will incentivize people to make more low quality apps 

I am also fearful that as these funds continue to go towards these people, it will drive an even larger wedge between “builders” and everyone else on this app 

It’d be cool to be able to use your subscription fees to “sponsor” a channel or something and instead keeps your money strictly in that ecosystem 

For ex. What if we were able to say, okay, I’d like all my fees to go toward /replyguys, and every week they have their own leaderboard that pays out based strictly on who/how many are sponsoring

I like the idea of being able to have more say. For now, it’s primarily going to the weekly caster rewards, which is pretty good but not perfect (smaller accounts can do well). 

Ultimately, the goal is to continue to add to the feature set over time, making it more compelling.

tho, I don't think farcaster is bigger enough to get paid leaderboards per channel atm

could work for some big ones but could drive insane spam on them too

a variant of the idea, one random channel every week.. get a leaderboard.. or a system similar to aerodrome where pro accounts vites weekly for some channels to get the leaderboard (but this will end worse than expected imo)
