the point of rule breakers is that they must master the rules first, so they are somehow seen as "smart" than others not taking advantage of the rules.. tho, the line between it and a villain is.. tight

Good call! This is a lesson I learned in writing first before anywhere else. I learned the rules of grammar, stuck with them, wrote by the book...until I didn't. And when I began breaking the rules, my writing got better because I knew what rules to break, when, and why. Applies broadly, I think.
