New hardware for one of our homestaking computers arrived! NVMe is the fastest memory you can get. You need these because blockchain applications are I/O bound. While in theory these drives read and write 8GB/s, the reality is different -- when the drives are used constantly, performance drops dramatically.

In specific, SSDs are almost worse than HDDs, because SSDs saturate their cache faster. This causes the performance to drop from 500MB/s to around 30MB/s. We run 6x8TB Samsung drives on RAID10 on one of our machines, and it cannot keep up with Ethereum L1 using Erigon.
