I love finding word play when I’m reading a book translated from its original language. This one from Kafka on the Shore is about pawns (chessboard pieces) and paws (cat hands) It fits so perfectly in the story but it has me wondering what the original Japanese words were and what the world play was

Asian languages esp LOOOOOOVE puns when it comes to humor. It's why I always feel like I'm missing the plot in the translations.

I don’t read a ton of translations but you can just tell when there’s a good translator. Somehow you know they are capturing something, and even when the words are in English I can show how pickup up a different language and culture Do you speak other languages?
