I'm going to keep mini zoo doxxing, but I'll keep them on my home feed so I don't clog up /talkstory. This is Rocket, our Covid rescue. We got a call from a neighbor who asked us for help catching a puppy who had snuck into his yard. We found him cowering in a corner under his porch and he was so frightened, the most I had ever seen in our rescues and we've dealt with some severely abused animals in the past.
He didn't know how to socialize with other dogs or with humans, so we think he got separated from his mom and litter at an unusually young age, maybe from a puppy mill. How he got there we'll never know.
I had to work with him for a really long time, months longer than most, doing things like walking with him on a leash in our enclosed yard, since the street freaked him out. That process bonded him to me, so he likes sleeping alone right outside my office. He always thinks he's in trouble when I try to take a pic of him 😂 but other than that, he loves his pack, is a happy little guy, loving life. 27 replies
