A lot of it isn’t new information for me, broadly speaking. I read it mostly because I find the people in it familiar and soothing, almost. Like seeing old friends

i do this with lord of the rings.

the characters just soothe me.

its probably escapism, but still. glad to have something to fall back to like that.

Having such a vast knowledge of the subject, what new information did it leave you with? Or was it more or less just a fresh perspective?
