I read it a few months ago. I liked some of it and hated some of it. I can see Nietzsche is so famous. He knows how to write in a grand feeling style. How do you feel about him shitting on Socrates?

I've been thinking a lot about the concept of free will lately, and through that lens it's striking how this passage depicts a reality apparently devoid of it. I'm leaning hard toward free will being an illusion, but always looking for evidence to the contrary. A quick read-up on Nietzsche shows me he's probably not gonna be a good resource for such evidence

We must always analyze the phenomenon by its time. Napoleon can be seen both as a genius for his strategic brilliance and lasting achievements, and as a madman for his uncontrolled ambition that eventually led to his downfall. Both aspects are part of the complexity of his historical figure. Studying these figures and their relationships with the times is enriching, but venerating them is not... Nice fragment 80 $DEGEN
