I’ve been burned by my own hubris more times than I can count But the source of my hubris (hubris?) is a sort of naive willingness / confidence (ok I don’t agree with this choice of words: hubris, maybe looking at it more like a child like wonder) - and it shouldn’t be put down, if anything it should be encouraged and cultivated further - you should look foolish and just generally do things whether you look foolish or not I think when you are an actual child you’re often given some leeway for your shortcomings - ah look July is a child how fun it is that he is making these mistakes. As you get older people become a bit more tight, and less open to failure. That’s a shame, that can be remedied easily imo

I love childlike hubris at any age. Magic comes from people doing things they are told cannot be done. Huge fan of hubris fueled dreamers and underdogs There is another kind of hubris I see that stems from extraordinary success, money and power. I always wonder what # of one’s net worth triggers the brain rot kind of hubris. The kind that would throw humanity under the bus to attain more and more

I am building up my CPG network and it’s really humbling. I feel like I would get more of a response from cold emails if I was in school (or perceived me to be a student/learner) It’s like bam ur an adult, no stranger is gonna help you or encourage you to grow. And it’s unfortunate that we don’t foster this curiosity or helpfulness throughout our lives to others.

What an interesting thought, I was able to reflect on it while I was reading it. I agree with you, that's why I always say that we should not lose the child within us, this is a great example, do not fear failure, do not fear mistakes.

I completely agree with you that we should be more open to failure and not be afraid to look foolish. It's amazing how much we can learn from our mistakes. But I usually wonder if a balance to be found between embracing a childlike sense of wonder and also developing a level of maturity and wisdom. How can we strike that balance and still allow ourselves to be open to new experiences and possibilities…

I’ve been burned by my own hubris plenty of times, but honestly, that childlike curiosity and confidence shouldn’t be discouraged. We stop giving ourselves room to fail as we get older, and that’s a shame. Do you think we can bring that sense of freedom back as adults?
