getting mad at, accusing others, these are bad tools, this programming language isn't good enough -- it's all cope in a way cope isn't a bad thing; but it is important to recognize that cope isn't something external to you, but something internal to you that is blocking you from doing the thing that you need to do

I often find myself blaming others, blaming my circumstance, blaming my tools - only to realize my opinions of these people, these tools, are fictions or opinions created by myself, and my inability to be able to deal with that stems from thinking that it is external to me and not in my control - they are dead to me

yet this is untrue. while so many of these points may be out of my control (how people behave, how tools are built etc) the way I react to them is graspable. when things don't work, i'm more interested in why they don't work. and more often than not, i am much more afraid when they work straight out of the box

at times, i find myself dissuaded by my own desire to create because *something* isn't good enough. people aren't good enough, the market is not good enough - and while this may be laughable in retrospect. how easy it is give in and say yes, the weather isn't good enough so i'm not writing any code today

if you think about this with a cool head, it is pretty laughable. but i think there's something noble here about overcoming your own cope why? if you are coping right now and reading this, it's not a bad thing, it means you are on to something good because behind the cope are treasures waiting to be unlocked

Reading this makes me think of all the time I manage long threads and try to translate for my comprehension. I’m coping probably and I’m learning something new and the treasure is just one step closer.

I like this July. Cope being a signal that we have the ability to control and adjust the outcome of a situation, which we do. Always. Its the only thing we can control, our own perspective and reaction to any given situation. 💛

loved this thread, july! “when things don’t work , I'm more interested in why they don't work” — i've also recently been practicing this — if i feel afraid of sth, this is usually a good signal that it's sth i should not avoid, but sth i should go forward to and try
