I’m watching this movie about Ulam, Adventures of a Mathematician, and it’s funny how there’s this character Johnny who’s treated as the casual buddy of the main character and not as the man who’s gone down in history as possibly *the* greatest genius at the Manhattan Project, which itself was like genius HQ.

Feels like there’s been a shakeout in the chocolate industry. A decade ago I could’ve found bars from tons of artisan producers in a Whole Foods aisle; today I looked (had to buy some for an gift) and it’s been winnowed down to about 10, several of which have a nonprofit or diet niche focus. Definitely fewer now.

Incredible shot of a Leopard shark taken at Baker Beach today (source: Reddit’s r/sanfrancisco). I saw a much smaller dead one a couple days ago near Fort Funston, oddly enough.

I happened to ask ChatGPT for something I knew how to code, without a doubt, easily, and the results made me think. You can notice ChatGPT has no philosophy, or guiding compass, when you know where to look. In this case, ChatGPT used a library that barely seemed necessary to me, and sort of overengineered the sol’n.
