my belief is the current malaise is a product of living in a degen dominant culture. this is what it feels like to place financial nihilism front and centre. it's suspicious, catty and kind of stagnant.

tbh I was hoping the degens would end up funding interesting cryptography experiments in this space but that's not really happening.

This new breed doesn’t care about crypto at all and can’t wait to cash out. They only keep funds in crypto as long as there is opportunity to make more money - which is fair but drifted away from ideologists that loved to make money with crypto previously and onchain degens that loved to experiment with new stuff and make money.

Agreed. Big difference between institutional employees/investors spending other people’s money in an insanely risky fashion and degens who believe in the tech, use, experiment, ape into and probably make nothing or more likely, lose it. But atleast they persevere, keep using  dapps and being active onchain.
