They might not be because engineered identity, and identity permanence or requisites can have unforeseen and unintended consequences, more for some than others.

tbh I think most cases SBT can be substituted with just signed messages or more formally with Verifiable Credentials. You can have on chain code verify signature/VC easily. On the other hand, verifying SBT offline is much more difficult. Also, SBT has worse privacy
