How are casts into channels distributed nowadays? Who sees them?

Context is I have a couple friends that have joined and am wondering if/when i should tell them to post in channels or their timeline. For example, questions about /frames-v2, /los-angeles takes, snippets for /dev.

Direct questions:
1. If I cast into a channel, will followers of that channel see it–even if they don't follow me?
2. If I cast into a channel my followers do not follow, will my followers still see the cast?
