I wish our culture was better at honestly expressing our level of uncertainty, and being okay and encouraging of other people doing the same. Having widely-understood ways to say "based on what I know now, I think X, but this is a preliminary opinion and I am super-willing to adjust based on new arguments or evidence".

In a similar vein, I've had people observe with amusement that, when they ask if I have questions, I always reply with, "Not at this time." It's because I often don't know what I don't know, which means I'll likely have questions later on.

From a subjective perspective it may sound as if you have not listened deeply enough to run through your thinkings cycles as the content was delivered to you. Do you ever run into such situations? How do you deal with them?

The contexts I'm thinking of are typically fifteen-minute intros to projects, so I've often not had an opportunity to do a proper dive into the nuances of the work. I'm more a reader than a listener, anyway.

To the question of how I deal with it: I come back to them later with questions. Can't fix my failure in the past, but I can at least prevent my failure from causing further problems.
