i got robbed three or four times growing up in argentina. the second time, i was 18 โ€” standing outside my friend's house when a guy pulled a gun on me and asked for my phone (my precious iphone 6s i worked so hard to get). that shit changed me. after that night, i never felt safe here again. always on edge, especially when you're young, just starting to go out at night and shit. for months, i used to dream about getting shot. i could feel the bullet tearing through my body โ€” like a wave of burning heat inside me. it felt so real it haunted me every night. that was one of the main reasons i wanted to leave this place for good. i didn't want to live my life trapped in fear. walking the streets like prey, always paying extra attention, always looking over my shoulder. good thing is, this was one of the wake-up calls that pushed me to find a way to move overseas. if it wasn't for that stolen phone, i might have never moved to paris, berlin, and los angeles โ€” three truly life-changing experiences.
