This podcast with Howard Schultz was a pretty fascinating look at Starbucks. I found it interesting how much respect he has for third wave coffee and his disdain for the commodification of the Starbucks experience. https://pca.st/episode/5dd70280-138a-4a4e-9f1c-9809dafbdd20

I’m the BIGGEST acquired fan! I thought their question on whether Starbucks would’ve been successful if caffeine weren’t addictive was so good. The clear antagonism between him and the current management team was a tough look though (esp when he couldn’t name a single innovation since he was CEO)

So good. I loved his Costco shoutout and while I dig the mobile app, his passion for the face-to-face interactions is admirable. I walked away with a very different appreciation and perception of Schultz.

Great episode. He was so candid and shared a ton, especially about the early days. One nugget I loved was how Starbucks ended up being one of the huge winners in mobile and it was all driven by his team.
