I really wish I didn't read about the Titanic submersible sub story. Especially the whataboutism defending people's bloodthirsty remarks about those perishing on board. There is a father and son on board, one of whom will likely watch the light of their consciousness flicker out before them.

It really shows up the worst of ourselves. The fact that an issue like this just gets predictably split into two camps. Same old fucking thing whatever the fuck it is we're talking about. in fact, we've straight up lost the ability to talk about ANYTHING. This just highlights it further.

What is wrong with human circuitry that this sheer, morbid curiosity just has a hold on us? Why turn your head at a traffic accident? Why does a tragedy like this need minute to minute reporting, complete with LED countdown clock of how much air they have left until they all die?

It's the classic person claiming that "I wouldn't have gone along with the Nazi regime, I'm too morally good for that". No. You're clearly not. We're flawed from the inside out and you would have went right along with it. I don't normally get like this, but seeing how people reacted to this story is just sad.
