Think it should be the reverse, users which best retain monetizable DAU should be getting paid by Twitter. Otherwise they are more likely to direct their followers to other mediums they can better monetize and create less on Twitter.

i think there is real risk of creators driving traffic elsewhere, see linktree / OF but for a product where the core UI model is infinite scroll on a feed, i don't think your concern applies.

If you assume quality of the feed constant I see what you are getting at but if you assume many posters wouldn't pay and the absence of these posters sufficiently degrades Twitter feed quality then this would kill Twitter (quality defined by variance in monetizable DAU, not subjective measure).

If you look at Twitter like TV, the entertainment side of feed should be optimized for giving people the best content to maximize mDAU (regardless of who produced it) and the advertisement side of feed should contain content on a pay to play basis.
