Continuing on the OpenAI talent exodus, I do wonder if the obvious short term gains are tapped out and the smart people realized that starting a new company with current frontier knowledge / experience (assuming funding is there which it is) wasn't much of a disadvantage relative to OpenAI's need to balance a growing subscription / SaaS business.

A lot of really good points! Now that money needs to be made, it will.

Arguably we're moving from a less extractive to a more extractive research funding model.

From no monetization to supported by existing monetization models (i.e. search ads) to we have to figure out how to make money out of this so we might need to close source even more so we can sell the research findings somehow.
