My theory:

Most of the people who use bots to reply on Threads, Warpcast etc. won’t be political actors or propagandists. They’ll be folks who bought some social media marketing course from some grifter and think it will help them make money, or bot farmers working in poverty.

And that’s so much sadder.

i do sometimes wonder what is the point of being a bot

Indeed, the automation of interactions stems not from malice but from desperation and exploitation. The pursuit of artificial engagement reveals a deeper societal ailment, where genuine human connections are sacrificed for illusory gains.

What are we really seeking through these mechanized conversations?

You know what thou, I sometimes go on the bot profile and they do have a big following. And I wonder, do people follow the bots or it’s other bots that follow each other? 😅
