This is sort of where my head’s at too - Twitter is a relic of a specific moment in time on the internet

I’m not on Threads yet so no direct experience, but how much of the difference you’re describing do you attribute to the size (and therefore average quality) of the user base vs design decisions?

That’s the case I’d make anyways, not entirely sure I believe it

Text-based content appeals to people looking for in-depth information and nuanced discussion, and it’s an entirely different type of content than people typically come to Instagram for, IMO. Even if it doesn’t take off with hardcore Twitter users, it’s incremental AND strengthens Meta’s case as a 1 stop shop

Could be a play for brands to further monetize their Instagram audiences more than it is for the individual posters and content creators of Twitter

Meta launching a Twitter competitor days after Elon once again tries to burn the place to the ground is too good https://apps.apple.com/us/app/threads-an-instagram-app/id6446901002

Highly prefer the intellectual, builder vibe here to the general atmosphere on other non-Twitter social networks. High signal-noise ratio

Ha! I heard Marc Lore speak once, and I remember being SHOCKED that he said he didn’t read in response to a pretty standard question of “what are some books you’d recommend?” Hilarious that this made it into this book

More or less, although flying into a big airport is a pain in the butt. In the US though, there are over 5K public airports, most of which are untowered. Austin has several smaller airports specifically for general aviation planes and corporate jets that make it pretty trivial to do exactly as you described.

You can rent hangar space, but as long as the weather supports (and it usually does if your flying general aviation, otherwise you’re probably not going to risk it) you can just tie the plane down on the ramp and walk away. Fly -> park plane and lock up -> rent car -> hop in plane and fly home when done

It’s a really good question - I’m part of a flying club that provides access to well-maintained planes for a monthly fee + hourly rental price based only on flying time (not the total amount of time the plane is being rented). For General Aviation, clubs and partnerships are usually more cost effective
