I can’t quite put my finger on why yet, but I have a very bad feeling about prediction markets.

"gambling bad" motivates me on so many levels 🙂

been trying to wrap my head around:

1) does it matter that someone bets on the underdog because the potential payout is outsized, not because they believe they’ll win?

2) how is a "prediction market" different from sports betting? isn’t it just a fancy term to describe the same thing wrt other aspects of society?

hmmm but every vice has been part of society for a long time, that doesn't mean it's good. i don't think we should condone things that are bad.

gambling has been part of society since the dawn of humanity. The best thing we can do is ensure that it’s fair and transparent while making an effort to educate people about its pitfalls.

at a certain point, an election prediction market is a decentralized bounty for many different kinds of assassinations

my fear is folks with the power to influence certain outcomes will make the largest wagers…baseball and congress come to mind
