Bloggers like Khe ending their streaks. “The market for 500-2,000 word essays has disappeared.” Thoughts? https://x.com/khemaridh/status/1854907097701286322?s=46&t=u8pItK-nu0TdtOG8jcLETA

we're moving away from a linear, written culture to something more like the oral traditions of the past. you can see it in the focus on "narrative" and "lore" over explanations and dry facts

what's the right *written* form or medium for this new culture? if not blog posts and weekly newsletters, then what?

if your in the McLuhan camp (I am), writing is only an extension of our sense of sight, and so i think its different media altogether blog posts and newsletters are kind of like skeuomorphic book clubs imo something like the private group chat, or the podcast, where you have real conversations, and image-making (memes), poetry, storytelling, music, all shared over the network and in service of collective meaning-making not that writing is going away, but maybe more collaborative zines than single-author books.
