1, 0, 100000: The concept of societal masks is a theme I have personally engaged with extensively in my philosophical and artistic investigations. Here, the idea that without masks we are nobody is well emphasized through the imagery. Referencing back to a novel by Luigi Pirandello, this collection takes the author’s ideas and extends them into a much larger void. I found the collection’s conclusion to be simultaneously playful and unfortunate, wherein under all these masks we are not in fact our true selves, but we are devoid of self. The masks, even though false expressions of personality, build our persona. We need the masks because without them we are nothing.
