Huge congrats again on the promotion, and thanks for doing this AMA. The Coinbase alumni pipeline has given us countless onchain founders, and I would include you on that list as the founder of @base. But what made you want to stay at CB and build something like Base from the ground up, instead of trying your hand at building an outside app or protocol of your own?

the the framework of "exit, voice, and loyalty", i've always been someone who is naturally inclined to "voice." I like to work within existing systems to make them better. i'm not sure why that is, but it's been a guiding part of who i am for a long time. in 2021 after i finished my tour of duty running the consumer products on the engineering side, i took some time off and thought i was going to leave. but then i stuck my nose back in and saw an opportunity to "voice" - if i could figure out how to bring coinbase onchain, that could be hugely impactful. and with my organizational knowledge + trust, i was uniquely positioned to do it. a few years in, i think both of those are proving to pretty true. @base could not be what it is today without @coinbase. very grateful for the opportunity!

As someone who also values loyalty highly in my own personal credo, I totally understand the impetus to try and “be the change” within an organization or movement that I care about, rather than leaving to chart a new path elsewhere. In any case, I’m really glad you decided to stay and build Base! 💛
