this is a good thread from @bayardo.eth on the current state of @base fees and path forward. he's nuanced and measured, as i'd expect our core protocol leader to be. i want to share a less nuanced perspective: 1. we need to scale the @base EVM >1000x 2. we need to do this with urgency 3. the time to start is right now

Super important conversation! My take: - I am not sure 1000x single-EVM throughput increase is possible without breaking away from L1 EVM equivalence. - alternative would be to double down on the superchain, and possibly have multiple Base EVM instances as threads in there - yes, this is urgent, even beyond cheap blobs

1. I'm not convinced on a 3-5 year horizon equivalence is necessary. 100x seems possible with equivalence in shorter term 2. I think we need to do both 3. agree

I am personally no fan of EVM equivalence, but historically it has been quite sticky. RollCall is one attempt at helping L2s break away, not sure if it is the right one. Also, I think @vitalik.eth and @justindrake have talked about the benefits of EVM equivalence in a long-term L1 zk future.
