Feel like “Consumer crypto” is ironically terrible branding wrt consumers “Consumer” gives “Exit liquidity”, “sterile productive users” “Crypto” gives “Vague nerdy finance” and “Hot new ponzi” I get that it’s a matter of target audience & intent but I think we can do better idk

funghibull we're going to rock this twitter spaces tomorrow we need to stop calling it consumer crypto and approach it as "consumer" primarily and blockchain secondarily

Consumer crypto is used to talk about a specific category. Its useful when “consumer” is to broad to communicate something more specific. It’s not effective as user facing messaging. And I don’t really see people using it that way.

agree re useful for specificity + makes sense for VCs to use where specific categories and markets matter and i agree with you that it isn’t effective as user facing messaging where we differ is that i do see a lot of founders leaning into consumer crypto language perhaps due to different circles or vantage pts
