I was over the top with my boys tonight before bedtime I feel embarrassed Already apologized to them but there is no excuse Mostly Iโm angry at how I acted when my wife offered to take over because she saw that I was frustrated I apologized to her as well but damn Not a proud parenting moment

From one dad to another: As fathers and spouses, we sometimes jump straight to "sorry", "it won't happen again" and leave it at that. Don't leave it at that. After such platitudes, when we leave it at that, it probably remains unresolved in their minds. Look them straight in the eyes & acknowledge the poor behavior.

Don't justify or conditionalize. Don't tie it to what they did or didn't do. Describe & Acknowledge behavior. Empathize. (I know I hurt you) Genuinely apologize w/ remorse. Ask for forgiveness w/o expecting reciprocation. If you did it right, that's the beginning. Make the next time and the time after that, better.
