Also one of the oddities in Murderbot series for me is how the humans just know they are under ubiquitous surveillance by both constructs and bots but never comment on it otherwise, just the air they breathe

Key diff for me is that my meatspace is by choice a rural area and so not under everpresent eyes… my psyche hasn’t surrendered completely… yet

Current top of mind today is intimidation theater wrt immigrants this weekend in U.S. Exactly about getting “obey in advance” cf Timothy Snyder. Creating full nowhere-to-hide vibes 😶‍🌫️

Really is hard to imagine getting scooped up accidentally by law enforcement if it’s never happened to you or someone close to you. Luckily for reasons not hard for me to picture at all

Oof nice. Re: Murderbot (and our society generally?) that doesn’t seem as strange to me. If one is in a meatspace metropolis or on a resortified digital platform, I suspect most know on some level they’re under a Watchful Eye. Acceptable tradeoff for convenience.
