I'm not a good teacher but check out codingtrain on YouTube, Daniel shiffman is the moat enthusastic teacher ever. Has videos on 1D and 2D cellular automata, enough to teach you the basics. Then add your personal touch, and I just make things look pretty with paper.js 😁
