Over the years, the cost of making and obtaining music has plummeted, but our limited attention spans remain unchanged. It’s increasingly difficult to separate wheat from chaff and find quality. The overwhelming sea of mediocre AI content is clearly going to make this situation much worse, so what’s the solution?

This started in music with the $100 guitar and the mass adoption of power chords. When kids of my generation realized they could approximate Green Day songs and labels followed the old model of “sign and push everything,” eventually mediocre bands led to more mediocre bands flooding the market.

Funny thing is that Green Day were trained meticulously by a talented jazz guitarist and their fundamentals are super solid. So in a lot of ways no one is to blame if a few “innovators” capitalized on this loophole.
