Short answer: on-chain.

Reason: We assume we have two words here: on and chain. Think of two words business and wise. 

Example: Business-wise, Jayant is a smart guy. But his on-chain understanding...

Simple guy who paid 3 times to get a Farcaster account. I occasionally write.

How about this as a line of thought -
Web2 was online
Web3 is onchain

Interesting you are thinking this way. I dug up a little:

"When telegraph linemen said 'direct on line,' they were referring to sending current through a line. According to the Online Etymology Dictionary, it was not until the 1950s that 'online' referred to computers and peripheral devices."

In short, these "on" and "line" took decades to turn into online. Wordings, with time, change. 

For now, it is on-chain. It can, with time, turn into onchain.

So you’re saying we’re on track for it to be called onchain buuut we should wait a few decades?

The way Jayant and his army are behind this, decades will convert to days. 

On-chain will convert to onchain.
