A super rare moment with a third generation Hawaiian monk seal… as a volunteer, I watched over Rocky (#MonkSealRH58) and her pup Kaimana (#MonkSealRJ58), and then in February 2023, I watched over Kaimana and her first pup.

On my recent trip to Hawaii, I found this beautiful 16-month old seal. Left is last month, right is February 2023. More photos below.

She was so beautiful… I would have guessed she had just molted within a week or two, but the volunteer on site told me it had been a couple of months or more.
