now that warpcast has a wallet built in, can the protocol refactor out FIDs and ED25519 signers and use Ethereum accounts and ENS? (half joking 🙃)

why would one have to pay gas to update the profile?

the signer tech & what it signs and where its posted have nothing to do with each other no?

we use ens for usernames!

for data, paying gas for updating the profile wouldn’t work in the global scale — paying for the signup barely works

from back when i started tinkering with fc i remember it being quite involved to set up my own account via my main wallet.

imo it would be so much easier if i could just use my eth native ECDSA signer, or delegate one (e.g. "warpcast.jalil.eth" on a registry not unlike the fname registry). it would greatly simplify the stack, at least from my naive perspective.

First of all — Warpcast always had a wallet built in. Every Farcaster account comes with a custody wallet that holds the FID of the registered account. The wallet being added is a separate wallet that is more targeted for using onchain transactions and is separate from your core custody wallet.

Second — what would be the actual value of doing this? Do you have a specific use case this unlocks?

Meow. This is a fun fight. I use my ENS here (obviously) but I don’t really believe ENS has delivered on their promises. There is so much competition for namespace alone, which prevents universal adoption of ENS. It feels like people mostly support ENS now out of some sense of loyalty to the dream. Squatters have taken everything, too. I have had someone try to sell my name back to me. 

In contrast my FID gives me interoperable identity+wallet address — PLUS network, reputation. It is more than just the name alone like ENS and the many competitors

@dwr @Esk3nder @varunsrin @nicksdjohnson @ensdomains fine, but let's stop pretending that Farcaster is "ENS-aligned" as you've often said when it's actually competition (Farcaster has it's own names and profiles, which is exactly what ENS does). I'm not saying that's bad - competition is good - but let's also not pretend otherwise
